How We Work

Protecting the people you love shouldn't feel confusing. We'll help you make sense of it.

You don't need to know which policy, company or coverage amount is right before you reach out. Tell us about the people and responsibilities that matter most to you, and we'll help you understand the options.

01
Tell us who matters to you Your family, mortgage, income, business and the people you don't want left under financial stress.
02
Understand your choices We explain the options, what they cost and the trade-offs that matter for your situation.
03
Choose with confidence You decide what feels right once you understand what you're choosing and why.

The first conversation is about your family. Who depends on you, what you're responsible for and what you want to make sure is taken care of.
The First Conversation

We start with the people you care about. Then we talk about insurance.

Most families aren't thinking about insurance because they love insurance. They're thinking about it because they want to know their mortgage can still be paid, their children can still be supported and their family won't be left under unnecessary financial pressure.

01
Who do you want to make sure is financially okay?

Your spouse, children, parents, business partners or anyone who depends on you financially.

02
What would they still need help paying for?

The mortgage, everyday expenses, children's needs, debts, education or business responsibilities.

03
What feels comfortable for your budget?

We look at the protection you want while keeping the plan realistic for your monthly finances.

The MK Advice Standard

What you should expect from our advice.

You shouldn't leave a conversation with more questions than you started with. Our job is to help you understand what you're considering and why it may or may not make sense for your family.

01

Your situation comes first.

We begin with your family, responsibilities and goals before talking about products.

02

You'll understand why.

We explain why an option may fit instead of simply showing you a premium.

03

You'll see the trade-offs.

Lower premiums, longer protection, guarantees and flexibility can come with different trade-offs.

04

The plan should fit your life.

More coverage or a more expensive policy isn't always the better choice. The right plan is one that fits both your needs and your budget.

05

We're here after the paperwork.

If your family, mortgage, income or goals change, you have someone to come back to.

If you don't understand why we're recommending something, we haven't explained it well enough yet.
What Advice Looks Like

The cheapest option isn't always the one that protects you best.

Imagine a family asks for $1 million of Term 20. Before simply showing a price, we'd want to understand whether 20 years actually matches what they're trying to protect.

Example Family

“We were thinking $1M of Term 20.”

Mortgage remaining 25 years
Children Ages 3 & 5
Workplace coverage Yes
Initial thought Term 20
Question 1 What happens after year 20?

Their mortgage could still have five years left. That matters when deciding how long the protection should stay in place.

Question 2 Will the children still depend on them?

In 20 years, the children would be around 23 and 25. Every family is different, so we look at whether financial responsibility may still exist.

Question 3 What if their workplace coverage changes?

Employer benefits may change when jobs change, so we don't automatically treat workplace coverage as permanent protection.

Then We Compare Look at the term lengths that actually fit the timeline.

Depending on the situation, that could include Term 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 or coverage to a specified age. We compare the options that make sense rather than assuming one term length is right for everyone.

If You Decide to Apply

You don't have to figure out the application on your own.

If you decide to move forward, we help you through the application, explain what the insurer is asking for and stay involved while the application is being reviewed.

01

Application

We help you work through the application carefully.

02

Information

The insurer may ask for medical or other details.

03

Review

The insurer reviews the information provided.

04

Decision

The insurer lets us know what they can offer.

05

We Explain It

You understand the approval before deciding what to do next.

Market Knowledge

One insurer saying “not ideal” doesn't always mean you're out of options.

Insurance companies can look at the same health history, occupation or lifestyle differently. One insurer may offer standard coverage, another may charge more, and another may simply be a better fit for your situation.

When it makes sense, we compare alternatives so one company's answer doesn't automatically become your only answer.

Professional Guidance Without a Separate Consultation Fee

Get help from a trained advisor without paying a separate consultation fee.

You can speak with us, ask questions, understand your options and get professional guidance without paying a separate fee for the insurance consultation.

If you decide to put a policy in place, the advisor is generally compensated by the insurance company. We believe you should understand both the recommendation and how the relationship works.

No-Cost Consultation

Speak with a licensed insurance professional, ask your questions and understand your options without a separate consultation fee.

You Stay in Control.

Learning about your options doesn't mean you have to apply. You decide whether anything feels right for your family.

After You Become a Client

Your policy may stay the same. Your life probably won't.

A new home, another child, a career change, a growing business or a different financial goal can change what your family needs. That's why we don't see insurance as a one-time conversation.

When Coverage Starts

Know what you have.

We want you to understand the coverage, premium, beneficiaries and the important details of your policy.

As Life Changes

Your priorities may change too.

A bigger mortgage, growing family or income change can affect what feels appropriate.

When It's Worth Reviewing

We can look at the plan again.

Sometimes the existing coverage is still right. Sometimes your situation has moved on.

When You Need Help

You know who to contact.

Questions, beneficiary changes, conversions, new coverage or help understanding the claims process.

Planning Beyond Insurance

Protecting your family may be where we start. Building their future can come next.

As your income, family and goals grow, you may start thinking beyond protection — saving for your children's education, buying a home, investing for retirement or putting corporate money to work more thoughtfully.

When those conversations become relevant, we can help you think through them too.

What We Need From You

You don't need to be an insurance expert. You just need to be open with us.

The more accurately we understand your situation, the better we can help you think through your options.

Tell us what you're worried about.

Mortgage payments, children's future, income loss, budget concerns or anything else that's on your mind.

Be accurate when answering application questions.

Health, lifestyle and financial details matter, so it's important that the information is complete.

Ask us to explain anything that isn't clear.

There are no “bad” questions. You should understand what you're considering before making a decision.

Let us know when life changes.

A new home, child, job, business or financial goal may be a good time to look at the plan again.
